Date 06/06/2013

Chris Zevenbergen - Dogan Altinbilek - Wim Kuijken - Enrico Rossi - Jacki Davis

FIEC’s Annual Congress was hosted this year by Dutch Member Federation, Bouwend Nederland, from 6th to 8th June 2013 in Amsterdam. Aside from the statutory meetings of the FIEC Steering Committee and General Assembly, the three day gathering also included the traditional Conference given over this year to the theme of Water in the 21st century and the role of contractors

The conference, moderated by Brussels-based journalist Jacki Davis, saw a number of presentations from leading specialists in the field of water policy from the Netherlands and beyond dealing, among others, with flood protection, drought and urban planning issues.

In light of the conference proceedings, FIEC made a number of policy recommendations including ones regarding the urgency of action on adaptation to climate change as well as the need to involve the private sector at an early stage in planning climate change adaptation strategies. These recommendations are available to download with the Press Release "Water and Construction".

Meanwhile, the technical tour the next day gave delegates a unique glimpse into the construction works of Amsterdam’s new north-south metro line that is slated for completion in 2017.
