On 23 September, the European Construction Industry Federation (FIEC) became a new member of the REACH and Recycled Aggregates coalition, a collaboration opportunity that strengthens the Federation's engagement on the circular use of construction materials at EU level.

The FIEC Steering Committee adopted the proposal to join the industry coalition during its meeting on 22 September, and the coalition formally accepted FIEC as a new member the following day. FIEC will be represented within the coalition by Kirsi Martinkauppi, Chairperson of the TEC-3 "Environment" subcommission.

The coalition is in regular contact with the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, as well as with DG Environment and DG GROW. Through this membership, FIEC looks forward to actively contributing to the coalition's input to regulators, particularly on the following ongoing and forthcoming regulatory initiatives:

- the development of EU End-of-Waste (EoW) criteria for mineral Construction & Demolition Waste (CDW);

- CE-marking for secondary materials, particularly aggregates;

- the forthcoming Circular Economy Act; and

- Delegated Acts under the Waste Framework Directive.

The coalition brings together a range of organisations active across the construction value chain, including Aggregates Europe, Concrete Europe, EAPA (European Asphalt Pavement Association), FEAD (European Waste Management Association), FIR (Fédération Internationale du Recyclage), and Recycling Europe.

FIEC's involvement reflects the construction industry's role as a driver of the circular economy, and its commitment to ensuring that EU regulatory frameworks for secondary materials are both ambitious and workable in practice.
