Following the emergency call on 'bridge construction' issued by our German federations (HDB and ZDB), and a FIEC delegation's visit to the on-going worksite of the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke in Essen (a 600m long bridge over the A44 motorway, Neil Gerrard (who joined the visit in Essen) released this article to cast light on the urgent need of raising awareness about maintenance of bridges and infrastructure.
As Europe’s largest economy, Germany is renowned for having first-class infrastructure but even in one of the region’s wealthiest countries, the German bridges are undergoing safety issues.
