Pillar of Social Rights : “More competitiveness to sustain the social dimension of Europe”

Several EU employers’ organisations, including FIEC, addressed a joint message to the EU Institutions regarding the forthcoming steps towards a European Pillar of Social Rights. The main message is that there is a need for a framework which allows companies to grow, to create employment and thereby contribute to social progress in Europe.  The persisting social problems in Europe are mainly due to a lack of global competitiveness and in order to remain competitive companies need a business-friendly environment, which adequately tales into account the specific needs of SMEs.  Social challenges will only be tackled through economic growth, creation of new wealth and expansion of employment. The sole focus on social rights in the Commission’s proposed pillar is not the right approach.
