Standardisation under the Construction Products Regulation: Short-term actions and long-term solutions needed in construction

On 7th September, the European Commission hosted an important conference for technical stakeholders on the future of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR 305/2011). Amongst the speakers were Eric Winnepenninckx and Lars Meyer, members of FIEC's Technical sub-commission TEC-1 (Regulation and Standardisation), who between them gave three presentations and answered questions from the audience of more than 500 people. At the end of the day, MEP Christian Doleschal, Rapporteur of the European Parliament's committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO), emphasised the need for a Common Technical Language, better understanding of CE Marking under the CPR, IT-based methods for providing information about construction products, the need to reduce repetition and avoid conflict with other EU legislation and finally, the need for stakeholders to be included in standardisation and the process of revising the CPR. These are all things that FIEC strongly supports.
